OLDHAM RL reserves followed up their 16-10 win against Halifax at Whitebank last week by going to York on Thursday night and again conquering a Championship club, scoring six tries in a 36-16 victory.

Jamie Acton, at prop, led the forwards magnificently, receiving stout support from the rest of the pack, particularly from his fellow front-rower Danny Langtree and from loose-forward Danny Moran.

“All the forwards were outstanding,” said coach Paul Ashton, who praised his side’s commitment and desire and referred to exciting performances in the backs by full-back Benji Lloyd and centre Matthew Fogarty.

He added: “It was an excellent night’s work all round. We didn’t get there until half an hour before kick-off because of motorway delays, but we handled it well and with great determination.

“We could easily have had four more tries because we knocked on twice over the line and we were also held up twice over the line.

“I was absolutely delighted with how we played.”

New boy Ryan Hilliard, on debut, came off the bench to figure prominently at full-back first and later at scrum-half.

Tries were scored by Tommy Connick, Langtree, Kenny Hughes, David Cookson, Acton and Greg Worrall, with Steven Nield kicking six conversions from as many attempts.

Team: Lloyd; Fisher, Fogarty, Nield, Worrall; Noone, Connick; Acton, Hughes, Langtree, Cunningham, Cookson, Moran. Subs: Joy, Hilliard, Foreman, Mansfield.
