We played the conditions well – Scott

SCOTT Naylor was pleased to get the 2015 season off to a satisfactory start, having seen his Roughyeds produce an encouraging performance to earn a second-round trip to Barrow in the iPro Sport League One Cup.

New boys Coventry Bears were beaten 42-6, conceding seven tries and seven goals on a wet, windy and bitterly cold afternoon at Whitebank.
“We played the conditions extremely well,” summed up the Oldham boss.
“We kept it simple; didn’t make many mistakes; earned our field position; and scored some nice tries.
“The middle unit did really well and it was nice to see Lewis Palfrey back after injury and playing so well.
“As far as we can tell straight after a game, we came through unscathed, so that’s another positive.”
