Under-20s hit back in second half

NEIL Roden’s Oldham under-20s worked hard in the second half to restrict Sheffield Eagles to a 38-18 win at the Sheffield Hallam University’s sports complex.
Out-scoring Eagles by 12 points to ten in the second period, they did much to put right the wrongs of the first half, much to the satisfaction of coach Roden.
He said: “As this was only our second game and we were up against a strong Sheffield outfit we did okay. Eagles played two or three young members of their first-team squad and they were particularly strong on the left edge.
“It took us a while to adapt, but I was pleased with our response in the second half when we came much more into the game.”
George Tyson, Tom Flanagan and Reece Whitfield scored Oldham’s tries while Tom Dempsey kicked three goals.
Team: Singleton; Whitfield, Buckley-Mayall, Bickerstaff, Dempsey; Flanagan, Hughes; B Roden, Ball, Boardman, Tyson, Partington, R Joy. Subs: Fitzsimmons, Sargeant, Wareing, Turner.
The under-20s face another tough challenge at Whitebank this Saturday (March 29) when they entertain Featherstone Rovers (2.30pm kick off).
