Under-20s beaten

DALE Bloomfield, back after injury, scored Oldham’s only try in a 28-6 defeat for the under-20s at Halifax last night.
Tom Dempsey sent the winger in at the corner with a superbly-flighted cut-out pass and then kicked a great goal off the left touchline.
Such moments were few and far between, however, for an Oldham side that was well beaten by faster, more inventive opponents, who ran in six tries, five of them by their pacy backs.
Roughyeds conceded three ‘soft’ tries with individual errors, but Halifax blew as many chances as they put away, so superior were they when throwing the ball around and exposing defensive weaknesses down the visitors’ right flank.
It was thought work commitments would prevent Mark Hobson turning out, but he was able to play in a side that was up against it from the start.
