London Skolars 20 – 20 Oldham RLFC

WE were a bit off colour at the New River Stadium in North London yet despite injuries to back-row pair Paul Noone and Paul Smith we managed to salvage a couple of precious league points with a late try by Miles Greenwood to earn the draw.

We led, in fact, from the 29th minute to the 75th, scoring four tries to the home side’s three and showing a lot of spirit to snatch the draw after going behind to a Dylan Skee try with only five minutes left on the clock. continue reading

Oldham Reserves 32 – 6 Sheffield Eagles

ROUGHYEDS Reserves made it three wins from five outings in the under-23s Reserves Championship with a 32-6 win against Sheffield Eagles at Whitebank on Thursday night, April 19.
In so doing Paul Ashton’s boys avenged a 38-14 loss against the Eagles, also at Whitebank, in the first league game of the season on March 8. continue reading

Oldham 26 – 14 Barrow

ROUGHYEDS produced another terrific performance to beat Barrow Raiders 26-14 in the fourth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

Barrow had first use of the Whitebank slope and went 14-0 up inside half an hour with tries by Nixon and Harrison and three goals by player-coach Darren Holt, who was one of seven new faces in the Raiders line up compared to the side which we beat 32-26 in the league a fortnight ago. continue reading

Rochdale 18 – 10 Oldham RLFC

ROUGHYEDS lost their unbeaten Championship One record in a fiery derby at Spotland. They led 10-8 at half-time despite losing influential skipper Neil Roden with a severe deal leg after five minutes.

Hornets dominated a rough-house second half, however, to finish worthy winners, 18-10.

They already led 16-10 when our young forward Alex Thompson was sin-binned  after a brawl in which players of both sides traded punches. Roughyeds were awarded a penalty for a high tackle on Thommo which sparked the free-for-all but the player, and the Oldham bench, were mystified when he was shown the yellow card and everyone else stayed on the field. continue reading

Oldham Reserves 30 – 16 York

WINGER Shaun Robinson’s impressive hat-trick of tries was the highlight of the Roughyeds’ Reserve team’s 30-16 win over a spirited York City Knights outfit at Whitebank last Thursday night, April 5.

Playing his second game in the second team after a three-week lay-off with a hip injury, Robbo blitzed the Knights’ defence regularly by touchline-hugging runs over distance, setting up the opening try for full-back Mark Brocklehurst and then scoring himself in the 23rd, 55th and 70th minutes. continue reading
