Support England with the Roughyeds

Date published: Friday, June 25, 2010

SUNDAY afternoon is the traditional time of the week for rugby league fans to get together . . . and this Sunday need be no different for Roughyeds supporters even though Tony Benson’s boys don’t have a game and John Hough’s reserve team has a far-off date in Whitehaven tomorrow (Saturday).

This will be the second Sunday in a row that your favourite team has had a day off, but you can still support the Roughyeds — and enjoy the company of fellow fans at the same time — by turning up at Whitebank on Sunday afternoon to watch the England v Germany World Cup football match on big-screen TV.

The club will be open from 2.00pm and Roughyeds are hoping fans will choose Whitebank as their big-screen venue so that they can kill two birds with one stone — watch the big game like the rest of the country AND support Roughyeds at the same time by putting a few bob over the bar.

Occasions like this have the potential to be good money spinners for a club like ours and at a time when every penny counts we can start to see the benefits of having our own ground and our own club and bar.

After Sunday, the next Whitebank date will be next Friday night, July 2, when the Reserves are at home to Dewsbury Rams.

Houghie and his boys expect a big turn-out for this one and they believe with good reason that they will pull in more support than in their recent Saturday afternoon games at Whitebank.

So make a note in your diary now —- this Sunday afternoon for the England v Germany game on big-screen TV and next Friday night for the Oldham v Dewsbury game in the Reserves Championship.
