St Annes v Waterhead at Whitebank

The stars of the future will be on view at Whitebank on Sunday when the under-10s teams of St Anne’s and Waterhead will play a derby-clash curtain-raiser to the Oldham v Hunslet game.

It is timed to start at approx 1.45pm and will run for 20 minutes each way, finishing shortly before the senior teams come out for their warm-up.

Roughyeds always promised that once they had their own ground they would get actively involved in opening up to curtain-raisers etc and this will be merely the start of ongoing initiatives of this type.

Dave Charles, one of the Roughyeds’ match-day statisticians, doubles up as coach of St Anne’s under-10s.

He said: “There are some fantastic players in the town at all levels, and under-10s is no exception. It will be a great day for the boys to play at Whitebank as part of the build-up to the big game, and I think it will be a source of enjoyment for the spectators too.”

Roughyeds anticipate a good turn-out for the top-of-the-table clash with Hunslet and they urge fans to arrive early if possible.

The clubhouse will be open and to ease congestion on the two turnstiles match tickets will be available from inside the clubhouse from 1.0pm onwards. Tickets are also available from Lansdowne Road during office hours this week and up to 5.00pm on Friday.

For those who might be coming to Whitebank for the first time admission is £10 adults, £8 concessions and £3 under-16s. Car parking on the official car parks is £1 and fans are urged to use these wherever possible and not park on the adjoining streets which will be coned.

Refreshments are available in the clubhouse and also from the refreshment hut inside the ground.
