Squad Strengthener

FANS dug deep to help Oldham RL Club in the re-signing of half-back Jamie Dallimore on a new one-year contract, it emerged today.
The helping hand from the club’s supporters’ association ORSA, via its Squad Strengthener fund, followed similar assistance last season in the club’s recruitment of Miles Greenwood and the on-loan Rob Foxen.
Said club chairman Chris Hamilton: “The club wishes to place on record its gratitude to Squad Strengthener, and to those who contribute to it.
“They came to our assistance last season and they expressed a wish to help us again as we move forward towards the 2013 campaign.
“It is an extremely positive way in which people can support the club and one which we hope will continue to grow and thus become even more influential.
“The more fans who join ORSA and, in particular, the Squad Strengthener scheme, the better equipped we will be as a club to retain good players, like Dallimore, and to bring in new ones as well.”
Nigel Marland, ORSA chairman and the man behind Squad Strengthener, said “significant” contributions from two new backers of the scheme boosted this latest donation to the parent body.
He added: “We were helping to fund the Foxen loan deal late last season, but when the player was recalled early by Swinton, we were left with money in the kitty.
“We have a strict policy which dictates that any money we donate to the club must be spent only on players, so we used that surplus, plus the contributions from our two new backers, to enable the club to re-sign Jamie Dallimore.”
He said fans wishing to know more about ORSA or anyone interested in supporting Squad Strengthener could contact him via the Roughyeds office on 0161 628 3677 or directly by email to marlandnigel@hotmail.co.uk
