Sponsorship opportunities with the Roughyeds

NEWSFLASH . . . Rugby Football League officials to inspect Whitebank on Tuesday (report on Ground News page).

MORE sponsorship stories will be emerging over the course of the next few days as Roughyeds build and develop their links with the local business community.

A key project being undertaken currently is to attract perimeter round-the-ground advertising at the Whitebank Stadium where we hope to play our first game against York City Knights on Sunday week, May 9.

Some boards have already been taken, but there are still more available and any company wishing to take advantage is asked to contact the club’s commercial manager Rachael Marsters on 0161 628 3677.

Rachael has been heading the club’s commercial thrust over the course of the past three months, and only this week she tied up the latest deal with a family-owned Lees-based company, details of which will be announced in the next day or two here on the website. Watch this space.

The club is working hard on giving its sponsors and backers from the business world as much projection as possible in the local and regional media and we are indeed fortunate to have several local media outlets available to the club — both newspapers and radio — not to mention our very own website at www.roughyeds.co.uk which has been completely revamped and is now proving exceptionally popular.

Figures for March, the first full month after the relaunch, show that there were 3,731 visits to the site and 24,780 page views, averaging out at 120 visits and nearly 800 page views PER DAY.

The club also has available its own club photographer David Murgatroyd and its own reporter Roger Halstead, both of whom are ready and able to assist in the PR work and in the club’ mission to give sponsors and commercial backers value for money.

Said Rachael: “The Whitebank Stadium project opens up all sorts of commercial opportunities for the club and we are currently working hard on extending our links with the business world in and around Oldham.

“Partnerships with several local companies have already been announced; another one will be announced soon; and we are currently in discussions with others.

“These are exciting times for the club and we can look forward to even more excitement once we get established in our new home.

“The boys on the field are doing a great job with six wins from six Co-operative Championship 1 games played to date and that success, allied to all that is happening surrounding our Whitebank adventure, gives the club a fantastic feel-good factor, which is definitely reflected in what we are able to do commercially.

“We are striving hard to cast our promotional net as far and as wide as we can, but we would never profess to achieve saturation coverage and if there are companies or businesses out there whom we haven’t contacted and who might like to talk to us we would be delighted to hear from them and to discuss arrangements that would hopefully prove to be of mutual benefit.”

Only four members of the first-team squad have still to be sponsored, namely Jamie I’Anson, Ian Hodson, Scott Mansfield and Luke Sutton and these are available at £275 as a donation from a supporter or at £350 as a sponsorship from a company, which would derive advertising benefits whenever ‘their’ player was mentioned on match day over the public address system.

Match-day hospitality packages will be announced in due course once we are established at Whitebank and once we have knowledge of exactly what we are able to offer in that respect.
