OLDHAM  RUGBY  LEAGUE  SERVICE   AREA

*** After the Regional games against Yorkshire and the North in which the 8 players below from Oldham played for the North West, 2 players Jamie Knight and Patrick Toft have been selected for the Great Britain U18 side.

The GB side will play their first game against France in December - Congratulations to both players on achieving this honour - Oldham Service Area is proud of their achievement.

Oldham U18 have had 8 players chosen for the North
West u18 team. They are :- Lewis Straughn, Jamie Knight, Patrick Toft, Jake Burke ( all Waterhead), Ethan Langhorn, James Brennan, Tom Dransfield , Dale Lowe ( all Saddleworth).

They will now play for the North West against Yorkshire and one other area on Saturday, October 27th.

Oldham Service Area U18 team  played in an U18 Festival against other Service Areas.

Over the 3 games played, the Oldham side won all 3 games.

They played against Lancashire, Halton and Wigan / Leigh.

The Oldham team played excellent and expansive rugby to thrill the Oldham spectators.

The forwards set a good platform throughout the games for the backs to capitalise.

Flying winger Lewis Straughn scored 3 tries, whilst the strong running loose forward Michael Ward scored 2 as the Oldham side outclassed their opposition in all 3 games.

The final game for Oldham was  against previously unbeaten Wigan/ Leigh.

After being put under pressure for 18 tackles the Oldham side broke away for prop Will Schofield to plunge over from close range. This was quickly followed by Oldham`s 2^nd raid on the Wigan line for Callum Leigh to score from close range.

By this time Oldham were dominating the game and nearly scored again when after a  free flowing move from one wing to the other, the Oldham winger was just put into touch.

It wasn`t long though, before Oldham left wing Lewis Straughn flew in from 20 metres beating 2 men in the process.

The Oldham U18 team have now remained unbeaten for 3 years and in the process have beaten a combined Wigan /Leigh team twice.

Results:

Oldham beat Lancashire  3 tries – 0

Oldham beat Halton  5 tries  -  2

( Tries:- Tom Dransfield, Lewis Straughn (2), Michael Ward,  Patrick  Toft)

Oldham beat  Wigan /Leigh     3 tries  -  0

 (  Tries:- Will Schofield,  Callum  Leigh, Lewis Straughn)
