Latest updates from the club

++FANCY going to Sedgley Park on Saturday night, but no transport? Then hop on the club’s supporters’ bus and watch Roughyeds tackle Gateshead Thunder (7.30pm kick off) as we go in search of our sixth league win in a row. With no cup distractions now we can focus all the club’s energies on the Co-operative Championship 1 campaign and we will be out to return to winning ways, after our cup defeat at Hunslet last Sunday, and in so doing retain our 100 per cent league record — no mean feat. Only Blackpool Panthers have done the same so far.

The bus will leave the Black Horse on Ripponden Road at 6.15pm and the Mecca Bingo car park at 6.30pm and the cost is £5. Places are limited and will be booked on a first-come-first-served basis so don’t delay, ring asap to book on either 0161 665 1832 (Joyce) or on 0161 628 3677, which is the club number during office hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Outside those hours ring Joyce.

++OUR reserve-team players will be involved in Operation Whitebank tomorrow (thursday) night and again on Saturday morning when they will be at the ground to roll up their sleeves and get cracking on the many tasks that need to be done if we are to get our first game there against York on Sunday, May 9.

“It’s all hands to the pump at Whitebank right now and the fellows from the reserves will be only too pleased to get involved,” said Reserve team coach John Hough, who will be taking a 13-man squad to Cheltenham this weekend to represent the club in the Cheltenham Rugby League Nines Festival. The squad will travel on Saturday morning, play their first games later in the day (they are nine-a-side and last 15 minutes each) and then be accommodated overnight at the famous Cheltenham Racecourse.

Added John: “It will be a great experience for the boys, but first things first and that’s a session at Whitebank on Thursday evening when we will be doing all we can to help the volunteers in the many tasks that need to be done. The volunteers are doing a great job, and we will be delighted to pitch in.

“On Saturday morning the boys who are not going to Cheltenham will be down at Whitebank again, first for a little training session on the pitch and then to get involved in work again during the rest of the time that’s available.”

++IF you plan to go to Wembley on the weekend of the late-August Bank Holiday then why not consider buying your match ticket from the Roughyeds club. We have a supply of 100 tickets valued each at £26, but we have them on sale at a bargain £20, so that has to represent a good deal. Also, if you purchase from the club, Roughyeds also benefit, so it has to be a win win situation. The tickets are available at the club now in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton (tel: 0161 628 3677) and we are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

++COMMERCIAL Manager Rachael Marsters is now selling perimeter advertising down at Whitebank if you are interested in purchasing a board to promote your business or brand please call Rachael for further details.
