Roughyeds are to hold a Halloween Party at Whitebank on Saturday, October 30, tickets priced at £3 for adults and £1 for under-16s accompanied by an adult. Supper is included.

For tickets or more information contact the club on 0161 628 3677 or call in at the office in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton, open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Tickets are also available over the bar at the Whitebank club.

It will be a busy weekend at Whitebank because on Friday night, October 29, the night before the Halloween Party, the club will stage the fun night to thank club volunteers and those fans who rolled up their sleeves to work on getting Whitebank ready for the first game there last May.

The club has contact details for many of those volunteer workers but not for all of them. Staff are anxious not to miss anybody out so anyone who worked on the ground is asked to ring the above number and speak to commercial manager Rachael Marsters to confirm attendance.

Coach Tony Benson, meanwhile, has publicly thanked the staff at Cardinal Langley School, Slattocks for the role they played in helping to prepare Roughyeds for their successful 2010 season.

The Roughyeds squad trained two nights a week at the school from November to February as a major part of their pre-season work and it has since been widely acknowledged within the squad that the groundwork put in during that period provided the foundations for the good season that followed.

“We’ve thanked a lot of people for the help they gave us,” said Tony, “and it would be remiss of me not to record our thanks for the tremendous assistance we got at Cardinal Langley.

“We used their brand-new all-weather pitch, the gym and the sports hall for two hours a night and the staff were terrific. They couldn’t do enough for us.”

Plans for the start of pre-season training this year have not yet been finalised, but the players are expected back in at some point next month.
