Reserves play off at Widnes

IT is now confirmed that the reserve team’s play-off game will be Widnes Vikings away this Saturday, August 21. The game will be held at Widnes Rugby Union Club, kicking-off at 1.30pm.

Coach John Hough travelled to York last night to watch Widnes complete their regular season with a 52-6 win. They needed to score more points than that to oust Leigh out of third spot, so the league table remained unchanged.

The top six (all in the play-offs) finished in the following order: Whitehaven, Featherstone, Leigh, Widnes, Oldham, Keighley.

Interesting to see that, of the top six, Roughyeds are the only club currently in Co-operative Championship One — proof indeed of how well they have performed this season.

This weekend’s play-off ties are Leigh v Keighley and Widnes v Oldham. Note the earlier kick-off time for the Oldham game. It is down as 2.30pm on the RFL website, but since that was put on the clubs have been in contact and confirmed the 1.30pm kick off because that falls into line with the requirements of the hosts, Widnes RU Club.

It will be a big day for John Hough, his backroom staff and all the players because they will arrive back from Widnes and immediately prepare for Saturday night’s presentation evening in the Whitebank club. It promises to be a great night for players and fans alike, the first time the reserves have had their own presentation evening, separate from the first team’s big event.

Tickets are priced at £7.50, including two-course buffet supper, and they are available each day this week, from 9am to 5pm, at the club office in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton (tel: 0161 628 3677).
