Reserves coach John Hough will pick from a 20-man squad for the reserve team’s first-ever play-off game against Widnes Vikings which will take place tomorrow (Saturday) at Widnes Rugby Union club, kick-off 1.30pm.

Props Ben Mellor and Ben Marsden both face late fitness checks, but there are hopes they will be available for selection from the following squad:

Ross Coates, Stephen Lynch, Alistair Williams, Jamie Knight, Danny Chetwynd, Dean Hatton, Tommy Connick, Ben Mellor,Scott Mansfield, Luke Sutton, Michael Ward, Mark Smith, Mark Brocklehurst, Austen Barrowclough, Paul Raftery, Phil Joy, Dale Lowe, Michael Cadd, Ben Marsden, Jabe Dennis.

Half-back Michael Diveney, who has played a huge role all season in whatever the reserves have achieved, misses out unfortunately due to the calf injury that also kept him out of last week’s line-up against Leigh Centurions.

Said John Hough: “We are all looking forward to the challenge and to the occasion. It will be the reserve team’s first experience of the play-offs and in that respect it is something of a milestone.

“It’s sudden-death, of course, and we are all determined to go over there; give it our best shot; and make sure we don’t let ourselves down.”

Win or lose, a big night is assured in the Whitebank club tomorrow night when the reserve team’s end-of-season presentations take place in front of a large gathering of fans. Tickets for the event, priced at £7.50 including two-course buffet supper, have gone well all week and they remain on sale until 5pm tonight (Friday) from the club’s office in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton (tel: 0161 628 3677).
