Reserves look to fly past Eagles

HIGH-FLYING Oldham RL Reserves, beaten only once in their last 12 outings, will be banking on speed against bottom-club Sheffield Eagles at Hillsborough Arena tomorrow (Sat), kick-off 11.30am.

Lewis Brookes, Zac Cotton and Terry Bridge, wingers all, have been added to the squad that hammered Leigh Centurions 62-40 at Whitebank last week along with utility forward Phil Joy, who can play anywhere in the pack.

Out go injured prop Alex Eyres (ankle), hooker Danny Whitmore (shoulder) and wing/centre Alistair Williams (wrist) to produce a squad of 18 which will be trimmed by one before coach John Hough posts his starting line-up outside the dressing room an hour before kick-off.

One of these will stand down:

Nield, Brookes, Cotton, Bridge, Fogarty, Brearley, Chetwynd, Dallimore, Connick, Joy, Hughes, Gilchrist, Dean, Knight, Thomson, Wood-Hulme, Langtree and Barber.

Said Hough: “We beat Eagles 62-20 at home in June, but we need to respect them because they only have to bring in three or four men out of the first team and suddenly they are significantly stronger.

“We’ve three games left and if we win them all we’ll finish second in the table. To achieve that, we need to be professional in everything we do.”

Roughyeds will be playing at Hillsborough Arena in Middlewood Road, Hillsborough S6 4HA for the first time.

Added Hough: “We’ll have a few fans going across to support us and I know we can rely on them to give us terrific backing.”
