WINGER Terry Bridge scored a brace of tries as Oldham RL Reserves lost 30-26 against Leigh Centurions in an under-23s game at Leigh Sports Village yesterday (Sunday).

Half-back Tommy Connick and forwards Michael Ward and Danny Langtree also crossed the Leigh line while Jamie Dallimore kicked three goals.

Roughyeds came close to following up their win at Championship club Featherstone last time out with another Championship scalp. “We were the better side for much of the game,” said coach John Hough, “but it was our first game in more than three weeks and we ran out of gas in the last 15 minutes.

“We played good rugby and scored some excellent tries in a nip-and-tuck game, but when we needed to get back at them near the end we had nothing left. There is no substitute for match practice and match fitness and our recent lack of action was the decisive factor.”

The team included two newcomers — replacement hooker Kenny Hughes (19) from the St Helens area and winger Anthony Bingham, who has returned to the club more than two years after leaving to go to Australia.
