BRUCE Johnson and Phil Joy, the front-row forwards who were at the heart of Oldham RL reserve team’s 16-10 win over Halifax last week, have given coach Paul Ashton a dual prop problem ahead of tomorrow (Thursday) night’s under-23s game at York (8pm).

Both are out, Joy because of a muscle strain and Johnson because he is in the middle of exams at work and can’t get time off.

“The first team have no game this weekend, so I’m hoping they can help me with a couple of reinforcements,” said Ashton.

He will be talking to head coach Tony Benson later today to see what can be arranged.

Benson’s men, in fifth spot, have a blank Sunday before facing up to two crucial games in the Championship One promotion battle against sixth-placed Rochdale at Whitebank on Sunday, June 24 and against fourth-placed Whitehaven away on Sunday, July 1, both 3pm.

The Junction public house on Ripponden Road plan to run a supporters’ trip to Whitehaven, leaving at 11am and costing £14 per person. Booking deadline is 10pm on Thursday, June 28 and payment in advance is required.

In partnership with Higginshaw ARLFC, Roughyeds’ Supporters (ORSA) will stage a quiz night on Friday, June 22 (8pm) at the Higginshaw club, Stephens Street

Entry is £1 per person, maximum six on a team. For more information ring Paul Whalley on 07796631192.
