Players and trophies at Spindles this weekend

The Roughyeds players will parade the two trophies they have picked up in their pre-season campaign — the Law Cup and the SEAT Trophy — when they do a two-hour meet-the-fans signing session in the Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre this Saturday, February 5.

They will meet shoppers between 10.30am and 12.30pm on the Upper Mall between Peacocks and Next.

The team’s pre-season warm-up match programme had a silver lining, with the Law Cup coming back to town thanks to a 34-28 win over derby rivals Rochdale Hornets and the SEAT Trophy coming back from Whitehaven following our 50-0 thumping of the Cumbrians, both games at Whitebank.

Spindles on Saturday is your chance to look at the cups in close-up and perhaps have your picture taken with the players only 24 hours before the game everyone has been waiting for since the end of last season —- namely, the opening competitive game of what should be another exciting campaign in 2011.

The visit to Spindles Town Square is part of a renewed agreement in which Spindles will be sponsoring the Roughyeds for the fourth year in a row.

For the first two years they sponsored our player-of-the-month and player-of-the-year awards, but they had a change of direction last year when they became shirt sponsors. They will be shirt sponsors again this time.

Said Mike Flanagan, the Shopping Centre manager: “At Spindles we are looking forward to another exciting season of Roughyeds rugby and to continuing our links with the club. Roughyeds and Spindles Town Square are all about community and it’s good that we will enjoy a continuing partnership. That can only be to everyone’s benefit.”

Solicitors Wrigley Claydon have also renewed their backing, as shirt sponsors. John Porter, partner in the firm, said: “We have been associated with Oldham RL Club in all its variouis guises for many years. We are proud and delighted to continue that relationship.”
