Player-recruitment talks

Date published: Friday, September 28, 2012

CHRIS Hamilton and Scott Naylor have had a meeting to pool their plans and to begin the task of reviving Roughyeds’ fortunes.

Player-recruitment topped an extensive agenda.

As Neil Roden is the only player already under contract for 2013, the new coach had to draw up a list of those players from last season whom he wanted to re-sign on new deals.

He has spent a week studying DVD footage of every game from last season, while also calling in favours from his network of contacts in the hope of bringing in new signings as well.

He will have to replace Miles Greenwood and Danny Whitmore, who have gone to Batley Bulldogs, and Paul Smith, who has retired.

However, the nucleus of the squad will probably come from players who were at Whitebank in 2012, hopefully including the talented younger end like Jamie Acton, Michael Ward, Chris Clarke, Liam Gilchrist, Alex Thompson, David Cookson, Danny Langtree, Jamie Dallimore and the emerging Phil Joy.

The process of selecting and appointing Naylor’s No 2 will also be high on the list of priorities.

The supporters’ association ORSA will meet on Thursday, October 4 at Whitebank (8pm), followed on Friday, October 19 by a Race Night at St Stephen’s sports and social club, home of Higginshaw ARL community club, first race off at 7.30pm.
