OUR very own Lewis Palfrey has been named Premier Sports Championship One Player of the Week after a dominating display against Hemel Stags.

Palfrey’s performance earned him the maximum five points towards Championship One’s Player of the Year award at the end of the season.

Every week each coach in the Kingstone Press Championship and Championship One is contacted to help compile the Premier Sports awards.

Premier Sports Championship One Player of the Week – Lewis Palfrey (Oldham)
Oldham captain Lewis Palfrey earned the praise of Roughyeds coach Scott Naylor after an outstanding display at Hemel.

Palfrey was superb at stand-off in Oldham’s 30-12 win. Naylor said: “Lewis played with a lot of freedom, looked very relaxed and played with a smile on his face.

“When he plays with confidence his natural ability comes out, which he’s got in bucket-loads. He’s an excellent player and he’s still got a lot more to give as well.

“Giving him the captaincy put some pressure on him, but he’s handing it, getting used to it and really performing well.”

Premier Sports Performance of the Week – Oldham

Oldham dominated this week’s Premier Sports Championship One Team of the Week, with five players earning selection from the Roughyeds’ impressive 30-12 win at Hemel.

Richard Lepori, Jon Ford, Dale Bloomfield, Lewis Palfrey and Danny Langtree were all included in the team of the week.

Oldham coach Scott Naylor said: “At Hemel we managed to score some points, which is what’s been missing from our game.

“Hemel are a good side and it’s not an easy place to go. They’ve got some big, big people playing in the middle of the park and they’ve got a lot going for them. It was really pleasing to get a decent win there.”
