HOOKER Gareth Owen has joined Oldham from Salford, on loan to the end of the season.
The 22-year-old Owen, a local lad who lives in Moorside, has played more than 30 Super League games for Salford.
He has been out on loan at Sheffield Eagles, but was released back to the Red Devils so that he could sign for his hometown club.
He goes straight into the Roughyeds’ squad for Sunday’s big game against Hunslet Hawks at Whitebank and will be in contention to make his Oldham debut.
Said chairman Chris Hamilton: “We are delighted to have secured Gareth’s services — another Oldham lad ‘coming home’, albeit on a temporary basis at the moment.
“He’s a quality player who will help us with our hooking problem and provide us with a great addition to the squad as we approach the business end of the season.”
The hooking problem arose when first Adam Files was ruled out long term with a knee injury, followed by more bad luck which hit Kenny Hughes when he went down with an ankle problem.
Coach Scott Naylor will finalise his team to take on the Hawks when the players report for training tomorrow.
