ORSA for 2012

Date published: Monday, December 12, 2011

PAUL Whalley, secretary/treasurer of the Oldham Roughyeds’ Supporters’ Association (ORSA) has sent out the following Christmas newsletter to members:

“I WOULD like to wish all members of ORSA, and supporters, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2012 and thank all of you for your continued support throughout 2011.

“We can be proud of what we have achieved to date as a supporters’ association.

“The year 2011 saw us achieve a number of goals as we supported the club with fundraising from quiz nights; a race night in partnership with Higginshaw ARLFC Community Club; our sponsored walk to Spotland in aid of ORSA and Dr Kershaw’s Hospice; and on numerous occasions when members supported the club in other ways, not only on match days, but throughout the year.

“ORSA sponsored Liam Gilchrist; the Supporters’ player-of-the-year award; the reserve team’s presentation night; and also purchased a couple of memberships in the club’s weekly Club Cash lottery.

“So how do we move forward in 2012? We need to increase membership and we can do this by holding meetings and events at other venues throughout the town and hopefully this will enable more people to attend.

“We are sponsoring two players in 2012 — Liam Gilchrist and Neil Rigby — and we are in the process of purchasing water bottles and tackle bags. Members will also continue to support developments within the club.

“The 2012 season is a very important one for Oldham RLFC, especially in relation to ensuring that the team wins promotion to the Championship in 2013 and that the ground is upgraded sufficiently to enable us to compete at that level.

“I am talking to amateur clubs about fund-raising ideas. If you have any, let me know.”
