Touch Rugby League

Touch Rugby League is the fastest growing form of the game around the world, as it is enjoyable for players of all ages, gender and ability; and it is also a fun way to get in shape, burn calories and build muscle tone as during games players will:

1.On average players work at 80% of their maximum heart rate in a Touch Rugby League game
2. The average speed a player travels at during a match is 7kmh.
3. The average distance covered during a game of Touch Rugby League is 3086.48m covered in a 40 minute fixture.
4. On average a player would cover 92.7m each minute.

At ORLFC we are running touch rugby league games every Wednesday night 7pm until 9pm at Oasis Academy Oldham starting 11th June 2014. All people over the age of 14 are invited to play; the games are available to both teams and individuals. There is a small price to pay to take part in the games which is £20 per team per week or £3 per individual per week.

Teams are made up from between 6 and 10 players. As well as offering health benefits to the players touch rugby league offers a social and leisure side as players have the opportunity to meet new people and will be interacting with people on other teams, if you come down as an individual you will be put in to a team with others, who have come along as an individual player, rather than a team, again giving opportunity to share rugby experiences and techniques.

If you’re 14 years or older come and join us and have a go at the fastest growing form of rugby league in the world. It’s an exciting and fun way for people of all ages and abilities to get in shape and socialise.

Players will need to bring with them:
1.Water bottle – It is always recommended to keep yourself hydrated, why not bring a bottle to fill up before you take to the pitch.
2.Appropriate Clothing – This could include shorts and a t shirt if it’s good weather or tracksuit pants and jacket if you want to wrap up warm.
3. Footwear – If you are indoors trainers are recommended. Once outside, football boots, including studs or moulded studs will help you glide along!

All games are 40 minutes, which will be built up by 2 x 20 minute halves with a break for half time.

If you already have a team together we can allocate you a slot beforehand, so you will know what time you will be playing your games, to enhance the co-ordination of arrangements for the team.

League Quick Guide to Touch Rugby:

•The simple aim of Touch Rugby League is to score a try by grounding the ball over the opposition’s try line.
•The basics of the sport are similar to the traditional game in that you pass the ball backwards and have six opportunities to score.
•To stop the other team from scoring you must touch the player with the ball. A legal touch is on any part of the body, clothing or ball and constitutes a tackle.
•After six touches the ball is handed over from the attacking team to the defending team.
•The game consists of two 20 minute halves.
•5/6 players per team are allowed on the field at any one time and there are unlimited numbers of substitutions.
