‘One of our best yet’ – Scott

SCOTT Naylor gave a verbal pat on the back to each of his 17 players, describing the 32-10 cup win at Barrow as one of the best all-round team performances in his two seasons and a bit as Oldham boss.

“Don’t ask me to pick out individuals,” said Scott after watching his side concede two tries in the opening minutes before hitting back to batter the previously unbeaten Raiders in their own back yard.
Barrow went 10-0 up inside 12 minutes of the iPro Sport League One Cup quarter-final, but 68 minutes and half a dozen Oldham tries later, Naylor said the boys wearing pink and grey for the first time — the club’s new away strip —- had come up with an “absolutely outstanding”
performance.
He added: “In preparation for the game we worked on playing a certain way and talked about the things we needed to do to beat Barrow at Craven Park.
“After the first 10 minutes or so the boys started to concentrate on what we had set out to do, and to then go nearly 70 minutes without conceding again sent out a statement which won’t have gone unnoticed throughout the division.
“We worked hard as a team and we were totally committed to the job that had to be done if we were to reach the semi-finals.
“Not many teams will come up to Barrow and win and even fewer will score 32 points, so my lads are fully deserving of every plaudit they will receive.
“Their hard work has put us into the last four of a tough knock-out cup which will be great to win. Hopefully, we can build on this now and see where it takes us.
“It was a superb team performance in which full-back and wingers got us on the front foot with nearly every kick return; the forwards then rolled us forward; and our halves had time and space to produce good kicking games.
“It was a confidence-booster if ever there was one.”
