Olympic gold medallist  Luke Campbell MBE will be the Guest of Honour at the 2013 Tetley’s Challenge Cup final, Hull FC v Wigan Warriors at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (August 24, 3.00pm).

The 25-year old won gold in the bantamweight division at London 2012 and says his experience on Saturday will be one of the highlights of his sporting career.

I feel very honoured to have the opportunity to be chief guest at Wembley,” said Luke, who won his opening professional fight earlier this year. “As a young lad I always dreamt of playing in a Challenge Cup final and whilst my sporting career took a different direction,  in many ways this is a dream come true.

“I would like to wish both Hull FC and Wigan Warriors the very best of luck in the final: the best team always wins at Wembley and I’m sure that will be the case on Saturday.”

Campbell, who won silver in the 2011 World Championships and Gold in the 2008 European Championships, was part of the British Olympic boxing squad that topped the boxing gold medal charts at the London Olympics. He was awarded the MBE in the 2013 New Year’s Honours List.

RFL Chairman Brian Barwick said: “We are delighted that Luke Campbell has accepted our invitation to be Chief Guest at the Tetley’s Challenge Cup final and I look forward to welcoming him to what will be a magnificent sporting occasion.

In a year which ends with the Rugby League World Cup final, it is fitting that we have an English sportsman who has tasted success on the international stage involved today in one of the finest competitions in the sporting world.”
