DESPITE a brace of tries by lively hooker Andrew Ball, Oldham RL under-18s were beaten 36-30 by Halifax at Whitebank on Saturday.

Other Oldham try-scorers were prop Jordan Morris, sub forward Josh Hulme and centre Jack Ashworth, while scrum-half Craig Lawton kicked five goals.

In an evenly-contested game, the lead changed hands three times, but Halifax scored six tries to Oldham’s five.

Sais coach Phil Costin: “We failed to master the wet conditions in the first half when he made a lot of handling mistakes and conceded too many penalties.

“We were better in the second half, but they then hit us with a couple of interception tries.”

Roughyeds, whose next game is at Keighley in a fortnight, were well led by captain Morris.
