ROUGHYEDS have had their best-ever response to this year’s summer coaching camp for youngsters which will start at Whitebank Stadium on Monday.

Up to now 27 boys and girls are booked on to the course, including two nine-year-olds from Cornwall, and more are expected in the next few days.

The course, to be run by Roughyeds’ players Mick Fogerty and Lucas Onyango as well as Dave Charles, a member of the Roughyeds’ match-day backroom team and also a qualified youth coach with Oldham St Anne’s, will start at 9.30am and run until 1.00pm each day from Monday to Thursday inclusive.

Cost per child is £30, or £50 for two children from the same family. The course caters for boys and girls aged seven to 11 inclusive.

Anyone wishing to book or obtain further details can do so by ringing the Roughyeds office in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton on 0161 628 3677.

Said club chairman Chris Hamilton: “We are delighted to have had such a positive response to the camp. We feel this is due in part to the fact that the club is having such a good season on and off the field. It also helps to have such a good facility available as the Whitebank Stadium.

“Quite a few of the children who are already booked on the course have played in curtain-raisers at the ground this season and they have clearly enjoyed the experience.

“Mick Fogerty, Lucas Onyango and Dave Charles are looking forward to working with the children. While rugby league is the over-riding theme it is important that the children have fun and enjoyment and the camp will be run and organised with that in mind.”
