Roughyeds have followed up their capture of Mark McCully with the signing of former Swinton prop, Bruce Johnson.

Both Johnson and McCully may figure in the Reserves team at Keighley tomorrow (Thursday).Club chairman, Chris Hamilton said, ” Both Bruce and Mark are extremely experienced players and we expect them to play a significant part in our achievements in the second half of the season.”

Johnson, like McCully, began his pro. career at St Helens and then moved to Widnes, before spending the last five years at Swinton, where he initially went on loan.

He is contracted to Oldham until November 30th, but he has only played tree times for Swinton this season plus one game for Wigan St Judes in the final of the Ken Gee Cup against Rose Bridge.

Bruce said, “I’ll need to put in some fitness work as I haven’t played much this season, but I hope to be in the Reserves team on Thursday and then we’ll just take it from there.”

Coach, Tony Benson said,”I’ve admired Bruce for a while.¬† He is just the sort of player we’ve been¬†looking for. When Swinton have played us in the past he has always been their strongest forward.”

Roughyeds felt they needed cover in the front row with Jason Boults out injured and Liam Gilchrist, also injured, set to leave in mid July on a prearranged trip to Australia with Great Britain students.
