Oldham 48 Oxford 28

LEWIS Palfrey had his best game of the season to date in our impressive 48-28 win against Oxford which followed a 52-16 triumph against Gateshead Thunder in our previous home game.

One hundred points in two consecutive games at Whitebank is pretty good going, but coaching staff and squad are not so happy about conceding 44 in the same two games and that will be part of their game they will be working on as we prepare for our next game against York City Knights at Whitebank on Sunday, May 18 (3pm).
Make a note in your diary NOW because this one should be a cracker against one of the strongest teams in the competition and one which is likely to bring good support.
It will be something of an historic occasion too because York were our first ever opponents at Whitebank when we staged our first game at the ground on May 9, 2010. They spoiled our ‘house warming’ by winning 34-28 in front of a crowd of 1,110.
If we can reverse that result in front of a similar crowd a week on Sunday that really would really be something to shout about.
Anyway, back to the Oxford game. They came in search of their third win in a row, having pulled off a shock win at York in their previous trip to the north, but we played some of our best rugby of the season to score eight tries by Michael Ward (2), Danny Whitmore, Danny Langtree (2), George Tyson, Mo Agoro and David Cookson.
Palfrey chipped in with eight goals from nine attempts and produced an excellent individual performance to carry off the club’s official man-of-the-match award.
He had a hand or a boot in most of our tries on a day when everybody contributed well to the team effort and when there were other outstanding individual efforts by Ward, Langtree and Nathan Mason, who has joined us on a month’s loan from Huddersfield Giants.
