Oldham 24 Swinton 18

WE followed up our strong performance in a 16-6 loss at Barrow with a stunning second-half fightback to earn a 24-18 win against Swinton Lions at Whitebank.
Our third and final pre-season game is against a Leigh Centurions squad at Whitebank this coming Saturday, February 15 (2.30pm kick off).
Against Swinton we trailed 4-12 at half-time and then went 4-18 down early in the second half before getting our act together to finish worthy winners by scoring 20 unanswered points in the final quarter.
Playing up the slope in the first half, and also into a strong and tricky wind, we gave away too much ball and failed to execute efficiently when we were close to the Lions line.
As a consequence, the visitors had most of the ball and most of the good field position and hit us with three first-half tries as against one for Roughyeds, scored by Mo Agoro after good work by David Cookson and Danny Langtree.
A rare scrum win against head and feed — how often does that happen in the modern game ? — led to a fourth Lions try after 45 minutes, but after that it was all Roughyeds as we charged down the slope relentlessly, winning repeat sets and totally dominating the game.
Liam Thompson, Sammy Gee, Danny Langtree and Alex Davidson, on home debut, all scored tries, while Steven Nield and Sammy each landed a conversion.
Team: Nield; Agoro, Cookson, Wood, Bloomfield; Hughes, Robinson; Boults, Whitmore, Ward, Crowley, Langtree, Thompson. Subs: Hobson, Davidson, Files, Hall, Gee.
