Once upon a Smile, in association with Oldham Athletic & JD Sports, are to hold a fundraising match at Boundary Park to raise funds for the people affected by the recent gas explosion in Shaw.

The Once upon a Smile Celebrity XI will play an Oldham Athletic Legends team at the ground on Sunday 29th July 2012, 2.30pm kick off.

The Once upon a Smile team includes a host of famous actors from soaps such as Eastenders, Shameless & Waterloo Road, including captain and Emmerdale star Danny Miller, along with a number of ex-professionals and other celebrities. The team, who play regularly in order to raise money for families who are suffering with illness or loss of a child, will face an Oldham team that will include manager Paul Dickov along with former legends such as Earl Barrett & Andy Ritchie.

Once upon a Smile co-founder, Dan Jillings, said: “The recent events have shocked us all and being local we were desperate to set up a game in order to help those affected. We are extremely grateful to Oldham Athletic for letting us use the ground and for their helping in organise the game along with our sponsor JD Sports. We are really looking forward to facing what is shaping up to be a strong Oldham team and hope the local community will come out to support such a great cause”.

Latics Commercial Manager, Jenny Warburton has been overwhelmed by the support that has been offered: “This is a dreadful time for the residents of Shaw, especially those who have lost so much in the tragic blast. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Jamie Heaton at this very sad time. Coming from Shaw myself, I’m unbelievably proud of how our community has come together to help the victims of this disaster. The team at Once upon A Smile and JD Sports do a wonderful job and I expect this event to raise lots of money towards the appeal.”
