Nield “man on a mission”

STEVEN Nield will be a man on a mission when he plays for Oldham RL under-20s against Sheffield Eagles in Sheffield tomorrow. (Sat, April 26).
Coach Scott Naylor was less than satisfied with the performances of full-back Tom Whitehead and wingers Mo Agoro and Dale Bloomfield in the Good Friday defeat at Hunslet.
One of three first-team squad members on duty tomorrow at the Hillsborough Arena (2pm kick off), Nield will be looking to put in a performance which will enhance his chances of winning a senior recall at full-back or wing against Oxford at Whitebank on Sunday week, May 4 (3pm).
“Our back three were off their game against Hunslet, so ‘Neildy’ will be pushing for one of those spots in the Oxford game,” confirmed Naylor.
David Cookson and Mark Hobson also play in the second team tomorrow and Paddy Mooney would have done too had he not been ruled out with a bad back.
Added Naylor: “There’s a need for ‘Hobbo’ (Hobson) ┬áto continue to improve his fitness levels, while ‘Cookie’ (Cookson) needs game time after missing much of the season so far because of injury.”
Cookson and Nield will pair up at centre, with Hobson at loose-forward.
Under-20s: Singleton; Sargeant, Cookson, Nield, Bickerstaff; Dempsey, J Hughes; Wareing, Ball, B Roden, A Joy, Partington, Hobson. Subs: Flanagan, Barratt, Turner, Walker.
New boy Luke Barratt, a prop who has previously played for Leigh, will make his Roughyeds debut off the bench.
Reece Whitfield, a nippy little winger, was in line to keep his place, but he was shaken up in a road accident yesterday and was unable to train last night.
The game will be played at the Hillsborough Arena on Middlewood Road S6 4HA with a 2pm kick-off.
