Next Under-20s Game

Date published: Monday, June 3, 2013
PLEASE note the following changes to venue and kick-off time for our under-20s match at Rochdale this Thursday night, June 6.
Since early season it was scheduled for a 7.45pm start at Spotland, but due to matters beyond our control (it’s Rochdale’s home game) it will now take place at Mayfield Sports Club, Castleton, kicking off at 8pm.

It will be our second team’s first game in three weeks and coach Phil Costin and the boys would love to have the support of a decent following for this third meeting of the season with our derby rivals.

Hornets drew first blood with a 26-12 win at Mayfield back in March, but four weeks later we met them again at Whitebank when Costin’s lads turned things round to win 46-22.

We are a young side and overall this season so far we have won three and lost five, with our other two victories coming against Halifax at home (35-18) and against Hemel Stags away, 48-0.

Says coach Phil: “As we have now reached the half-way stage of the season it is a good time to reflect on where we are and how we are developing individually and as a team.

“The players’ hard work is starting to pay dividends and it was extremely pleasing to see the difference in performances in our pre-season friendly with York, when we were heavily beaten, and in our more recent outing against them when we lost 36-24 in a fiercely competitive match.

“We still have work to do on individual decision making and keeping structures in place, but we are definitely going in the right direction.

“Thursday’s game against Rochdale will bring different challenges because of the long break between games, none more so than retaining self discipline.”
