OLDHAM RL Club have strengthened their squad with the capture on loan of two up-and-coming youngsters from Leeds Rhinos.

Callum Casey, son of former Roughyeds prop Leo Casey, has joined his hometown club along with Huddersfield-born Danny Bravo, each signing initially for one month after which the loan agreements will be reviewed.

They are among five members of the Rhinos under-20s squad who have been allowed out on loan — two have gone to Keighley and one to Doncaster — in order to gain experience of Championship One rugby. continue reading

Stars of the future

Three of the four fixtures for Roughyeds “stars of the future”, the scholarship squad have now been fixed and the fourth against Workington should be finalised on Friday, but it could be as early as Wednesday June 22.

They take on Hunslet at the South Leeds stadium on Wednesday 13 July 8.00pm (not 18 July as announced in today’s Chronicle), Keighley at Cougar Park on Monday August 1 (8.00pm) and Leigh at Whitebank Thursday August 25 (7.30pm). continue reading

The future of Roughyed talent looks good

Phil Costin, coach of our scholarship squad, is tipping some of his under 18′s to graduate to the first team squad.

Costin’s cubs, all twenty two of them, are training twice a week ahead of games against Workington and Leigh at home and Keighley and Hunslet away.

Most of the players are from outside the area, from Widnes,Wigan, Huddersfield and Bradford. continue reading

POINTS-MACHINE Carl Forber has joined Oldham RL

POINTS-MACHINE Carl Forber has joined Oldham RL Club on a month’s loan and he goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s derby clash with Rochdale Hornets at Whitebank (3pm).

Roughyeds, who have been searching for another half-back since Matty Ashe left the club a few weeks ago, got their man last night at the second time of asking.

The 26-year-old Swinton and former St Helens, Leigh, Workington, Rochdale and Blackpool half-back was lined up to come to Oldham a week ago, but the Lions changed their minds at the last minute.

Tony Benson was forced to scrap his plans to include two new boys in the side that demolished London Skolars 52-26 last Sunday and had to settle instead for introducing one — prop Luke Stenchion.
