New programme

A newly-designed Oldham RLFC official match programme, with more pages than last year and cheaper to buy, will be on sale for the first time at Sunday’s Northern Rail Cup clash against Rochdale Hornets at Whitebank (3pm kick off).

Compared with last year’s programme, it has increased in size from 20 pages to 24 while the cover price has gone down from £2.50 to £2.
Editor Nigel Marland, who has been in charge for the past six years, says he is delighted by the quality of the season’s first issue, which is designed and printed by one of the club’s kit sponsors, Elite Print Solutions Ltd of Middleton Road, Chadderton.
“I would say it is definitely the best all-round publication we have produced, particularly in terms of lay-out and design,  during my years as editor,” said Nigel.
“We will endeavour to maintain that standard throughout the season, making strategic changes as and when we feel it is appropriate.”
Four pages are devoted to the scheme in which fans can sponsor pieces of the Whitebank pitch with all money raised going into a ground development account and used solely for the purpose of improvements to Whitebank.
Cost of this once-in-a lifetime opportunity is £10 to sponsor a square metre and the names of everyone who has subscribed up to now are given across two pages in Sunday’s programme with more names to be added in the programme for the next home game against Gateshead on Sunday week, March 17.
Another first on Sunday will see officials of Oldham Roughyeds Supporters’ Association (ORSA) setting up a stall in the Whitebank clubhouse where fans can find out more about Squad Strengthener or even sign up to join.
Squad Strengthener is a fund completely independent of the parent club which raises money exclusively for the purpose of bringing in players as and when the club feels they could be useful.
Nigel Marland, the ORSA chairman, has reported that the fund last year raised £2,300 in 12 months. This season, and only one month in since the scheme’s 2013 launch, it has already pulled in almost £2,500.
The ORSA stall will be set up in the clubhouse at the first four home games against Rochdale this Sunday, Gateshead Thunder the following Sunday (March 17), Rochdale again in the first game of the Kingstone Press Championship One on Good Friday, March 29 and Oxford on Sunday, April 28.
At the Oxford game a draw will take place for substantial prizes to be won by all those in the scheme. Each member will have once chance for each multiple of £5 that makes up his or her donation. For example, a fan who donated £30 would have six entries in the prize draw.
We’re up and running again at Whitebank 2013. Hope to see you there on Sunday.
