Naylor out for cup success

WHILE promotion is Oldham’s priority, coach Scott Naylor is looking to do well in two knock-out competitions.

Roughyeds go to Barrow in round two of the new iPro Sport League One Cup and if they beat Coventry at Whitebank on Sunday (3pm) they will be through to the fourth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.
That’s when Championship sides go into the hat, the leading clubs at that level offering a potential money-spinning fourth-round tie to clubs like Oldham and Coventry.
Said Naylor: “There are a few reasons why it’s important for us to win some cup-ties, and I can’t stress that too much.
“Club, players and staff know that —- and in both cup competitions we want to go as far as we possibly can.”
Danny Langtree (hamstring) will not be risked on Sunday, but Naylor remains optimistic that he will be ready for the Barrow tie on March 15.
The Roughyeds boss also confirmed after last night’s training session that he will make changes despite last week’s 42-6 hammering of Coventry in the other knock-out competition.
He said: “Dual-registration selections will be at a minimum, but some boys who didn’t play last week will get a game this time.
“We’ve got to turn up with the same attitude and play with the same enthusiasm from start to finish.
“The conditions didn’t help last time, but hopefully the weather will be a lot better on Sunday and we’ll be able to play a different brand of rugby.”
The draw for round four will be made at 6.45pm next Tuesday at the Provident Stadium in Bradford.
