It was hard work at London Skolars, but we completed the job with a 32-6 win which, combined with Keighley’s home defeat by Swinton, took us back to the top of the division with a two-point lead.
A tricky wind and an artificial pitch didn’t seem to suit us. We dominated the first half, but as half time approached we led only 6-0, thanks to a converted try by Lewis Palfrey, made by Oliver Roberts and Jack Holmes.
Then, in the last two minutes of the half, we added further tries by Michael Ward and Steve Roper, this one made spectacularly by George Tyson.
Early in the second half Ward got his second try, followed by Palfrey’s second as we built up a 28-0 lead.
Skipper Palfrey finished with 16 points — four goals and two tries —– to stay out in front in the divisional tries and points charts.
Skolars pegged back six points near the end, but we finished off with a sixth try by Liam Thompson, which Roper failed to improve as replacement marksman for Palfrey, who had gone off with a dead leg.
