Man of the match etcDate published: Monday, July 13, 2015
JOSH Crowley won the club’s official man-of-the-match award and Jack Holmes was handed the champagne-moment award in our superb 38-18 win against Rochdale Hornets at Whitebank.
It was our fifth win in a row and it completed a league double over our derby rivals, whom we beat at Spotland on the opening day of the league season.
It made for a great day at Whitebank where we were supported by a crowd of 725 — our biggest of the season and our best for a derby at our home ground since 2011.
Josh was named man of the match, but he was quick to point out that this was a great team performance in which every one of his colleagues played a key role.
Jack got champagne-moment for his fabulous, try-saving tackle on Danny Yates in the first few minutes when he covered across from the wing to haul down the Hornets half-back just short of the line when he had looked a certain scorer.
“Jack is a young player in his first season of senior rugby. He has played for us at full-back, half-back, centre and wing and he is doing a great job for us,” said club chairman Chris Hamilton.
Hornets went 8-0 up early in the game, but we rode the storm; went in at half-time on level terms at 14-14; dropped behind 14-18; and then swept to victory on a wet sail with 24 unanswered points in similar fashion to the way we put 28 unanswered points on York in the previous game.
