Luck of the Irish

OLDHAM RL hope the luck of the Irish will give them a lift in their 2012 promotion drive.

They have linked up with Waterford-based Azzurri Sports, who become the Roughyeds’ official kit and leisure wear suppliers for the next three years.

There will be no change in colour — red, navy blue and white at home and black and pink away — but in each case there will be a different design. They will be unveiled soon.

Replicas and a full range of 2012 leisure wear will be available in the next few weeks, although polo shirts and hoodies are on sale now from Lansdowne Road, Chadderton (0161 628 3677).

Coach Tony Benson’s links with Ireland RL and its former chairman Dave Southern pointed the club to Azzurri, for whom Widnes-born Southern is an agent on this side of the Irish Sea.

Established in 1984 and a leading brand in Ireland, the company is keen to build up its portfolio in the UK after cutting its teeth last year with Barrow Rugby League Club.

Said sales director Jamie Osborne: “It’s exciting to do business with Oldham. We are in year two at Barrow and in terms of expanding into the UK we now have a sound base provided by two traditional rugby league clubs in the sport’s heartland.

“We manufacture at our factory in Waterford and we are flexible and willing to look at new ideas from customers.

“Oldham and Barrow have been pro-active in that so we are not merely showcasing our products in the UK, we are developing them in a relatively new market.”
