Lighting up the night sky

OLDHAM RL Club’s latest community project in Limehurst Village and Hollins lit up the night sky and attracted 500 local residents, most of them families with children, to Whitebank.
Held in conjunction with community junior rugby league club Limehurst Lions, and with the financial support of housing associations Regenda and Contour, a giant fireworks display was followed by a Halloween party in the Whitebank social club.
“It was a great night, enjoyed by hundreds of local residents, and we now intend to make it an annual event,” said Roughyeds’ chairman Chris Hamilton.
“On behalf of the club I would like to thank Regenda and Contour for their financial support towards the fireworks.”
In another community venture, Roughyeds linked with partners Oasis Academy
Oldham to organise a visit by Oasis students to a rugby league coaching clinic
given by Australia’s World Cup squad at St Peter’s High School, near Belle Vue, Manchester.
Students were photographed with the Australian stars, who are favourites to wrest the World Cup from holders New Zealand.
Roughyeds’ Supporters’ Association (ORSA) has a Quiz Night at the Lyceum, Union Street, this Thursday (November 7) at 8pm, followed on Friday, November 15 by a Race Night, held in conjunction with Higginshaw ARLFC at the Higginshaw Sports and Social Club (7.30pm for 8pm).
