Launch of Squad Strengthener

Date published: Thursday, February 21, 2013
IN launching a new Squad Strengthener fund for 2013, the Oldham Roughyeds Supporters’ Association (ORSA) has revealed that a trial run in 2012 raised £2,300.
It was used to assist the club in signing Miles Greenwood; to contribute to on-loan Rob Foxen’s wages; and to help in the securing of Jamie Dallimore’s services on a new contract for 2013.
The association now plans to build on that over the coming season, launching Squad Strengthener 2013 with a new format and with incentives for fans to join.
It will be run and administered independently of the parent club and for the sole purpose of bringing new players to Whitebank.
Said ORSA chairman Nigel Marland: “Despite limited resources, the new coaches, Scott Naylor and Lee Spencer, have assembled an excellent squad, but if more funds were made available it could be strengthened even further.
“With only ten guaranteed home games it will be difficult to fund the development of Whitebank as well as the first team and the under-20s.”
Fans will be asked to back Squad Strenghtener 2013 by contributing in units of £5, each unit to be entered into a draw for three separate prizes.
The minimum donation is £5, but there is no upper limit. Fans can make a one-off donation or pay by monthly direct debit, with each £5 contributed offering a chance to win one of the following prizes:
+ A 2013 season ticket (money refunded if the winner already has one) and a framed, signed shirt of your favourite player.
+ A £75 voucher for club merchandise or two tickets for the end-of-season player presentations with an opportunity to present the Supporters’ player-of-the-year trophy.
+ A £50 voucher to be spent on club merchandise.
All three winners will be invited to a home match as man-of-the-match sponsors, with corporate hospitality in the boardroom.
Fans will have the opportunity to buy £5 units at the meet-the-players evening at Whitebank, which will be held next Wednesday, February 27 (7.30pm start). There is no charge for admission to that event, which will be attended by Naylor, Spencer and all the first-team squad.
Cheques should be made payable to ORSA Squad Strengthener and sent to Sheila Somerville at 48, Great Meadow, Shaw OL2 7PX.
In addition, ORSA member John Davies will be fund-raising individually for Squad Strengthener by taking part in the 47-mile  Welsh Mountains cycle race and the Manchester 10K Run as well as cycling from Oldham to Wrexham for the league game against North Wales Crusaders on Sunday, June 9.
