Keighley reserves 28 Oldham reserves 22

WINGER Shaun Robinson scored a brace of tries at Keighley last night, but they weren’t enough to stop Roughyeds Reserves slipping to a 28-22 defeat in a pre-season friendly.

Half-back Jamie Dallimore and substitute winger Terry Bridge also scored tries for Oldham, while Dallimore kicked three conversions from four attempts.

Trailing 16-6 at half-time, Roughyeds rallied strongly in the second half with prop Liam Gilchrist leading from the front and showing that he had recovered completely from a hamstring injury.

The former St Helens academy front-row man needed a strong performance to push himself back into the first-team frame, and he didn’t disappoint.

“Liam played very well,” said coach John Hough, who admitted to being “a little bit disappointed” at both the result and at his side’s performance.

He added: “We were heavily penalised, and we didn’t react the way I hoped we would. We also need to address the fact that we conceded 28 points.

“But no drama. It was our first defeat in three pre-season games and we’ve a week now in which to get ready for our opening league game at York next Thursday.”

Team: Nield; Brookes, Dean, Knight, S Robinson; Connick, Dallimore; Gilchrist, Barrowclough, Crosby, Langtree, Wood, Marsden. Subs: B Robinson, Barber, Cadd, Bridge, Smith, Worrall.
