Jack Buckley RIP

IT is with sadness that we record the passing of former Oldham winger Jack Buckley, whose funeral will be at Oldham Crematorium on Tuesday, May 8, at 2.30pm.

An enthusiastic member of the Oldham Players’ Association (ex players), Jack signed for the Watersheddings club in 1959 from local amateur and schoolboy rugby and was a loyal and trusted club man.

At a time when the then Oldham club was blessed with international-class wingers — Dick Cracknell, John Etty and Ike Southward, for example — Jack played most of his Watersheddings rugby in the ‘A’ team.

A good friend of another former Oldham winger, Mike Elliott, Jack remained a keen supporter of the club until he died. He lived in Garden Suburb, just behind the Whitebank ground.
