Hemel Stags 12 Oldham 30

DALE Bloomfield’s hat-trick and a stunning solo try by Adam Files were highlights of our impressive 30-12 win at Hemel Stages.

Nineteen-yearr-old dual reg centre Jon Ford from Salford City Reds played inside Bloomfield and sent him in for two of his tries, the first early on and the second midway through the second half.
His hat-trick was completed ten minutes from the end when Josh Crowley offloaded in a three-man tackle near the Stags line to put a delighted Bloomfield in at the corner.
Sandwiched between those two second-half tries from the left winger was a gem of a touchdown by Files, who swept away from dummy half 20 metres out, shaped to pass to his left and then sped clear through the gap before turning inside the wrong-footed covering full-back to score behind the posts.
We led 10-6 at half-time, Hemel having gone in front with a try by second-row man Jake Hobbs, goaled by Mike Bishay, before Richard Lepori took Danny Langtree’s inside ball to cross near the posts for a try which Lewis Palfrey converted.
We stretched the lead early in the second half when Palfrey’s cross kick to the right was followed up and touched down by a flying Mo Agoro, who dived in at the corner in spectacular fashion.
We totally dominated most of the second half, but two penalties in a row enabled Stags to set up base back in the Roughyeds 20 metre zone, whereupon impressive home prop Aiden Pritchard took advantage of a rare defensive lapse to score a second Stags try. Bishay again converted to cut the visitors’ lead to 14-12.
There was no stopping the Roughyeds’ momentum in the final quarter. however, and we swept to victory with those late tries by Bloomfield (2) and Files, one of which was converted by Palfrey and one by Danny Whitmore, who took over kicking duties when the skipper limped off as a precautionary measure.
