Grand final ticket up for grabs

A LUCKY pensioner is set to win one of the best seats in the house when Oldham RL Club play York or Blackpool in the Co-operative Championship Grand Final at Warrington on Sunday week, September 26.

The concessionary £10 seat in block ‘C’ of the main stand at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, worth a top-price £20 at face value, is up for grabs thanks to the generosity of a Roughyeds fan.

He bought two adults’ tickets and two concessionary tickets from the Roughyeds’ office, but later discovered that one of the £10 tickets wasn’t needed.

“He gave it back to the club and asked us to make sure it went to a pensioner who might not otherwise get the opportunity to see the Grand Final,” said office manager Janet Yewdale.

“We are now inviting fans to nominate a pensioner who they think is deserving of the free ticket and to tell us, in no more than three or four sentences, why they believe their nominee should get it.

“All genuine entries will go into a hat and we’ll draw out the winner, but it will be nice to read about what the club means to its senior citizens.”

Fans are asked to enter by e-mailing names and supporting comments to the club’s commercial manager, Rachael Marsters. Write to: rachaelorlfc@btconnect.com

The Rochdale-based supporter who donated the ticket wishes to remain anonymous. “Roughyeds have had a fantastic season,” he said. “Congratulations to all concerned. I hope it will be a day to remember for whoever gets the ticket.”
