GERRY Jones has been named Roughyeds’ ‘King of the Fans’ at the end of a season-long hunt by sponsors Kingstone Press Cider to find the most dedicated supporter across all 23 clubs in the two Championships divisions.

Oldham-born, Gerry has supported Roughyeds all his life and never misses a game home or away even though he now lives 36 miles away in Leeds.

“I’m chuffed to bits to win this. The club means the world to me,” said Gerry, who wins a crate of cider and a family ticket for finals day at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday when Oldham go head to head with derby rivals Rochdale Hornets for the right to win promotion.

Gerry’s citation refers to his ‘unwavering support’ of the club and his ‘admirable dedication’.

Each of the 23 club winners will parade around the pitch at Leigh before one of them is named overall winner.

Kingstone Press will create a dedicated fan zone at Leigh Sports Village, providing pre-match entertainment in which fans can test their rugby league skills in several different challenges.

Tickets are available from Whitebank today and tomorrow from 10am to 1pm and from 5pm to 6.30pm.
