First game at Whitebank – Limited edition prints

Date published: Tuesday, May 25, 2010

DAVID Ford of Saddleworth, who painted the popular ‘Sunset on Watersheddings’ picture 18 months ago, has produced another limited edition print for sale by the club, this time of the historic first game at Whitebank Stadium versus York City Knights on Sunday, May 9, 2010.

The prints, which will sell at £40, will be regarded by many fans as collectors’ items and they will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. They can be pre-booked now by ringing the club on 0161 628 3677.

The ‘Sunset on Watersheddings’ prints sold out quickly and the club expects the follow-up Whitebank prints to prove equally as popular.

Said David, who was asked to produce a Whitebank print on behalf of the club: “I enjoyed the challenge. It was amazing how much work went on down there in such a short time.

“I based the print on the players coming out of the tunnel. I saw a mill chimney and a row of houses which were not dissimilar to Herbert Street at Watersheddings, so I included those to get some sort of continuinty from one ground to the other.”

David also does the prints for the annual Dr Kershaw’s Hospice calendar and he intends to include ‘First Game At Whitebank’ in the calendar for 2012.
