Featherstone 28 – 32 Reserves

ROUGHYEDS Reserves produced one of their best performances of the season so far to win 32-28 in a thriller at Featherstone Rovers on Friday night.

New boy David Cookson, a substitute prop, marked his Roughyeds debut with a vital try while centre Jack Bradbury, winger Lewis Brookes, loose-forward Alex Thompson, back-row man Michael Ward and centre Chris Headon also crossed the Rovers line.

Stand-off Jamie Dallimore kicked four goals from six attempts.

“To win at Featherstone at any level of the sport is an achievement,” said coach John Hough. “It was a terrific game and in the last few minutes we had to defend heroically to keep Rovers out.

“We needed a lot of character to win this one. It was an excellent performance. Our next game is three weeks away, at Leigh, so the players have been rewarded with a week off.”

Team: Nield; Bridge, Headon, Bradbury, Brookes; Dallimore, Diveney; Langtree, Mansfield, Bland, Ward, Knight, Thompson. Subs: Dean, Gilchrist, Cookson, Connick.

Saddleworth’s Gareth Morgan, who was lined up to join Roughyeds along with Cookson and Alex Eyres from Oldham St Anne’s, has opted instead to go to Leeds Rhinos.
