Fans Raising Funds

KEEN Roughyeds fans Michael Travis and his daughter Jennifer are putting their bodies on the line in a tough and triple sponsorship challenge to raise funds for ORSA’s Squad Strengthener.

Although originally
She started to watch Roughyeds more recently, following the death of her grandad, who had also supported Oldham RL through thick and thin for most of his life.
Explained Michael: “Jennifer started to come with me initially when grandad died, so that I would have somebody to accompany me, but she quickly became hooked.
“Watching Oldham now is one of the highlights of her week. She loves supporting the team and, in fact, it was Jennifer who came up with the idea of us doing something to try and raise some money for Squad Strengthener.”
The triple challenge they have set themselves will take place at Heywood Sports Village on the morning of Sunday, June 2, ahead of the home game against London Skolars that afternoon.
Before then they will have sponsorship forms available at the Oxford game on Sunday and at our next home game against Gateshead Thunder on Sunday, May 26.
They are doing a two-kilometre swim, immediately followed by ten kilometres of rowing, immediately followed again by 20 kilometres of cycling.
Said Michael: “Jennifer will find it a lot easier than me. I will find it difficult, but realistic. The swim will be easy enough, but I’m having to put in a lot of practice on the rowing and the cycling, making up to five trips per week to the gym. At least, we’re getting our money’s worth.”
Please listen out for Nigel Marland’s announcements over the PA system on Sunday about where you can find Michael and Jennifer if you would like to sponsor them. They would love to get the backing of fellow supporters who would like to help them to help ORSA who in turn will help the club to fund player recruitment.
If you don’t see them before or during the game they will be in the club afterwards when fans who have already donated to Squad Strengthener will be entered into a draw for three prizes.
This year, for the first time, each £5 donated will qualify for an entry into the draw, prizes for which are as follows:
First prize: A season ticket (money refunded if the winner already has one) and a framed, signed shirt of the player of your choice.
Second prize: A £75 voucher to spend on club merchandise or two tickets for the end-of-season Players’ Presentations with an opportunity to present the Supporters’ Player of the Year Trophy.
Third prize: A £50 voucher to spend on club merchandise.
