Fans forum

DON’T forget the Fans’ Forum, which will be staged at Whitebank this coming Thursday, September 22, starting at 7.30pm and featuring on stage Chris Hamilton, Tony Benson, John Hough and Phil Costin.

Chris, the club chairman, will take centre stage for the first part of the evening, updating everyone with the situation regarding Whitebank and then taking questions from fans to put everyone in the picture.

This follows an announcement made by the club nearly two weeks ago which read like this:

“THURSDAY, September 8, 2011 will be a day that will live long in the memory of Oldham Rugby League Club’s fans and with everyone else associated with the club from the chairman down.

“It was the day the Roughyeds finally came home.

“Contrary to what many supporters may have believed, it was only yesterday (Sep 8) that the deal to purchase the Whitebank site, and other aspects of the transaction, was finally completed and signed off by the club and other parties.

“Club chairman Chris Hamilton said: ‘With all legalities now formally completed and our future secured once and for all, we are now able to move forward and to plan for the future with certainty.

“I would like to place on record my thanks to Oldham Council, both officers and members, for their assistance in this and also, particularly, to those involved with the club who have shown unwavering support through what has at times been a difficult and frustrating process.

“However, we are now firmly focused on looking ahead and we can confirm that the previously postponed fans’ forum will now be rescheduled at Whitebank for Thursday, September 22 at 7.30pm.”

The format of the forum will be in two parts — part one will deal specifically with the ground and associated developments, while part two will be a questions-and-answers session with head coach Tony Benson, reserve team coach John Hough and Extended Scholarship coach Phil Costin.

Tickets can be purchased from the club offices in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) at £4, including pie and peas supper and entry into a raffle to win a 2012 season ticket.

Tickets purchased for the original date are still valid, and anyone with those who can’t make the new date can claim a refund by producing them at the office.

Please note that supporters who are intending to attend can, if they find it difficult to get to Whitebank during normal office hours, ring the office on 0161 628 3677 and speak to Janet to confirm attendance for catering purposes and to make arrangements to pick up ticket(s) on the door.

Club officials hope as many fans as possible will attend to learn of what is going on direct from the chairman re the ground and direct from the three coaches regarding anything on the playing side.

John Hough, of course, will have one eye on Sunday’s reserve team Grand Final against Widnes which will be held at Whitebank, kicking off at 3pm. He will no doubt be urging fans to get along to that game to cheer his boys on at the end of a magnificent season for his under-23s.

Normal reserve-team admission prices will be charged, namely £4 adults and £2 concessions. The club will be open before and after the game and refreshments will be available throughout the game from the refreshment bar inside the ground.

Fans who live in the Derker, Greenacres, Waterhead and Watersheddings areas can get free transport to and from the game from The Junction Inn, Ripponden Road, providing they book in advance on 0161 633 2759.
